OUR BIT FOR THE COMMUNITY - Friends Of The Elderly, Wallington

Wallington Day Care is a day centre in Surrey where elderly people from the local community can meet new friends and do activities built around individual preferences which they enjoy with help and support from dedicated and experienced staff. The staff there are trained to support older people with a range of age-related conditions including short-term memory loss and dementia. They provide light breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea. Service users can spend a day at the day centre or just a couple of hours, this really helps family members with a bit of respite, the team plans activities according to hobbies and interests. They are a charity run organisation and do so much for the elderly. Having the elderly close to our hearts too, we decided to give a bit to this lovely charity and donated a box of goodies including biscuits and cakes for the tea round and a box of fun activities for all to enjoy, these ranged from reading books, adult colouring books, quiz books, puzzles and arts and crafts kits. When we presented it to the day centre manager, Wendy, she was so overwhelmed it bought a tear to her eye! She was so grateful she couldn't stop thanking us! we felt so proud to have helped them and bring some Christmas cheer to them, she said she will always remain in contact with us and even printed off some games for us to do on Christmas day with our residents.
